'Bird I'

This graceful engraving made on to a gourd in the shape of a bird`s neck, will be a conversational piece and cause for admiration in any surrounding. We are fortunate that Margarita Seguil has chosen our store to sell her award winning works. This engraving depicts scenes of the daily life in the andes such as cultivating the field, cooking and celebration of fiestas among others.

Margarita Seguil

She was born in Huancayo in 1967. She is the daughter of the carved gourds Master, Sixto Seguil. Margarita represents the 5th generation in her family of artists of this milenary art.

She started in this art at very young age, when she was 6 years old, was invited to a TV program for children to demonstrate her art.

She has exhibited her works very extensively, for example, at the Italian Art Museum, Archaeological Museum and Cultural Center Ricardo Palma, all in Lima. She has participated in various national and international fairs and trade shows, like Venezuela.

Recently, she was the winner of a contest organized by the Miraflores Association of Artisans and the peruvian government.

She was the representative artisan at the International Fair of Tourism, FITUR, celebrated in Madrid, Spain in January of 2005.
